In It To Win It: My Pursuit for Full Time Fabulous

Why hello again. If you do not know by now, my name is Nell and I’m an arts and entertainment writer and reporter in New York City. I’ve had the pleasure and privilege of contributing to Pomp & Circumstance since the beginning of fall, covering concerts, fashion shows, and clothing brand/boutique re-launches, among other things. Keep reading this stellar site and you’re sure to witness that eclectic list expand.

Anyway, I’d like to thank the Pomp team for not only bringing me on board, but also for being such strong supporters of mine during my endeavor to become the face of Sunglass Hut’s Full Time Fabulous. You may have read Pomp’s promotional piece about me back in October, or their mention of me in a November article about going after your dreams. They praised me in the former and reinforced their flattery in the latter, accurately singling me out as someone who knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to chase it. Now if only acquiring said fantasy gig were as simple to nail down.

To learn more about the contest that I’m talking about, please visit this site. But, basically, I was up against 349 fellow fashion savvy individuals, each and every one vying to gain favor and move on to the next round. We competed for the most votes and, with that, I came in 11th. Not too shabby. That said, 11th isn’t 1st. Another girl got that spot. However, I had the honor of being chosen as one of nine who proceed to the second round based solely on selection by a professional judging panel. Starting today through the end of the month, we ten finalists engage in a blog-off, all apt to post stories feverishly in hopes of standing out. I couldn’t be more thrilled. For a few reasons.

I won’t go on and on about why this is such a big boon in my mind, but I’ll briefly say that, not only is my eye on the prize, which includes a year-long contract job with Sunglass Hut, but also, and perhaps more importantly, I have been working towards this or something similar since moving to New York in 2006. Frankly, I’m pretty sure I’ve been formulating this same scenario in my head since I was a girl growing up in Green Bay, Wisconsin. I’ve always loved to express myself via the written word and, on top of that, I’ve never not been a fashionista.

In December 2007, I decided just a day job wasn’t enough; I began blogging for a friend’s site and haven’t stopped since. Over time, I began contributing to other outlets, including InterviewMagazine.com, Paper Magazine and ZINK Magazine. This past January, I lost my full-time job. You can now read me regularly on NBC’s Niteside, FabricMag.com, MTV partner OurStage.com and right here on PompOnline.com. I also recently began sporadically reporting from the red carpet for OK! Magazine.

Bottom line: I dig this gig. Dig is an understatement. No one who knows me would deny my desire, not to mention the fact that I’ve paid my dues, 99% of the time writing for the sheer love of it. (I can promise you it isn’t the paycheck.) Not to be overlooked, I pride myself on dressing well and smart shopping. The combination can make or break you. I take pains to replenish my wardrobe and develop my writing and would love nothing more than to share both of these things with the world through this game-changing opportunity.
