Politics & Money

Today, a look at the news has brought on pre-election hysterics. What the eff are we supposed to do? With budgets being slashed for public forums such as libraries, schools and senior citizen centers, the solution does not lie with the divisive bickering of Michele Bachmann or Mitt Romney. I don’t care that one is trying to rewrite history while the other is still trying to make up his mind. I still need Obama to prove his mettle by making the major players of the current fiscal crisis pay for what they did. I don’t need some fatalistic old-Greek-inspired punishment like pushing a giant boulder up an endless mountain. I would be fine with certain people getting jailed, and having their funds seized. I want a Teddy Roosevelt style takeover, where corporations aren’t punished, but needless spending and wastefulness are. Wha happen?

New York Magazine wrote a compelling piece on this, Obama’s failure to right this wrong. But I, like many others, are left wondering what can really be done to fix our current problems. Go back in time and make ethical financial recourse the only possible outcome? But how? And now, I’m just thinking about the improbability of predicting the results of time travel, thanks a lot Michael J. Fox.

I certainly don’t have the solutions, or a fancy 80s car to take me back in time, but it would be nice if someone sat up and gave us some options instead of trying to place blame and tell stories that distract us from the true causes of our discontent.
